Milestone for this important project for Willemstad

On the 22nd of February 2022, the minister of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning, Charles Cooper,in presence of minister Larmonie-Cecilia, has issued a building permit for the construction of “New West End”. The former monumental West End complex was demolished 21 years ago, but this will change in the near future. The construction of the new West End complex has been planned for the next 12 to 15 months. For the design of New West End, we aimed to create a modern variant based on the original building in Art-Deco style.

The New West End

According to the EOP, “West End” belongs to an area for the commercial and tourism sector. The project will be a complex of retail units and catering (restaurants and bars). West end will be specifically developed in order to increase economic activities in Otrobanda near Brionplein, making the area more attractive for both tourists and locals of Curaçao. The construction will immediately affect the economic impulse and tourism for Curaçao. It will give a boost to the economy through the new possibilities during construction, maintenance and operation.
